🌍 Aligning 3D satellite data, even when imperfect: a key challenge for Earth observation.
At the European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO) 2026, @Maurine Bouzeid, a TéSA PhD student 🛰️, presented a robust method for 3D point cloud alignment (“Robust 3D point cloud alignment”) 🛰️, capable of handling outliers present in satellite data. This method was patiently developed throughout her PhD under the supervision of @Vincent Poulain, @Pierre Bruel (Thales Services Numériques), @David Youssefi (CNES), @Jean-Yves Tourneret (ENSEEIHT), and @Julián Tachella (CNRS).
Specifically: two 3D images of the same volcano 🌋, taken at different times, may contain moving elements such as smoke. The proposed method allows these disturbances to be ignored to obtain a reliable alignment, which is essential for many Earth observation applications.
A contribution that illustrates TéSA’s expertise 🛰️ on concrete issues encountered by its partners 🚀.
